Dental anxiety
Fear of the dentist is common. Around 4% of people have a dental phobia. People who are anxious about dental treatment often stop visiting the dentist altogether. Avoiding appointments can lead to dental problems, making it even harder to seek treatment. It is therefore important to make an appointment and avoid neglecting your teeth.
You are welcome at our practice if you:
- Are afraid of pain during treatment
- Are afraid of losing control during treatment
- Have neglected your teeth because of a dental phobia
- Feel extremely anxious about dental treatment
We will do everything we can to make your visit as relaxed and comfortable as possible. Dental Clinic Hagens has extensive experience caring for anxious patients.
We allow extra time for communication and support. We believe that clear communication and a trusting relationship can greatly reduce anxiety.
At your first appointment, also called an intake consultation, we will discuss the nature and causes of your anxiety. The dentist will explain everything step by step and develop a treatment plan with you. We reserve extra time to support you as well as possible.
There is no additional charge for anxious patients.
Some tips for anxious patients
- Share your concerns with someone you know. Ask them to come to your appointment with you. They can offer support and help you attend.
- Tell the practice about your anxiety when booking, so the assistant can take it into account when arranging your first appointment. You can do this by email or telephone. Tell your dentist about your concerns too: the more you share, the better we can help.
- Try breathing exercises during treatment or count to 500 to help redirect your attention away from your anxiety.
Would you like to make an appointment? We warmly welcome you to our practice and are accepting new patients.
